FC Barcelona have tied their captain down for two more years. Raphinha is due to sign a new contract running until 30 June 2030 on Thursday, 5 November, at 12:00 CET in president Joan Laporta's office at Spotify Camp Nou, the club confirmed according to the Spanish news agency EFE. The Brazilian forward will then face the media. His previous deal, agreed in May 2025, ran until June 2028.
The renewal had been settled in principle in September, when sporting director Deco and the player agreed to add two seasons. Signing day was delayed only by diaries, not by money: Barcelona had to find a slot between a packed league and Champions League schedule. No fee, salary or release clause has been made public.
Nineteen goals in thirteen games
The timing could hardly be better for the club. Raphinha has started 2026/27 in the form of his life, with 19 goals in his first 13 matches – 15 in La Liga and four in the Champions League. The past week alone produced four of them:
| Date | Match | Result | Raphinha |
|---|---|---|---|
| 31 Oct | Barcelona – Deportivo Alavés (La Liga) | 6–1 | 2 goals (8', 41') |
| 3 Nov | Barcelona – Aston Villa (Champions League) | 3–0 | 2 goals (52', 64') |
| 8 Nov | Atlético de Madrid – Barcelona (La Liga) | 21:00 CET | next up |
Hansi Flick, who has used him more often as a central striker this season, summed it up after the Alavés win: "He is very focused, he is our captain and he is showing his quality."
From doubt to the armband
It is a remarkable turnaround for a player whose future was in doubt in the summer of 2024. Signed from Leeds United in July 2022, Raphinha had an uneven first two seasons. Flick's arrival changed everything: in 2024/25 he scored 34 goals and added 25 assists in 56 games, which earned him the 2028 extension. After an injury-hit 2025/26, he was named captain for the first time this season. According to The Objective, he now has 94 goals in 190 games for the club – the fourth-highest tally by a Brazilian in Barcelona's history.
Where Barcelona stand
The new contract arrives with Barcelona top of the La Liga table after 11 rounds:
| Pos | Team | Pld | Pts | GD |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | FC Barcelona | 11 | 30 | +34 |
| 2 | Atlético de Madrid | 11 | 28 | +14 |
| 3 | Real Madrid | 11 | 27 | +18 |
Sunday's trip to the Metropolitano is therefore a top-of-the-table clash, before the Champions League continues away to Sabah on 25 November.
Our take
This is a sensible deal for both sides. Raphinha turns 30 in December and will be 33 when it expires, so Barcelona are paying for his best remaining years rather than a long decline, and they remove any summer speculation about a big-money exit. For a club still working within tight financial rules, keeping the leader of the dressing room is cheaper than replacing his goals. The risk is physical: last season showed how quickly his output drops when he is injured. If he stays fit, the 2030 date looks like a bargain.
